5 ultraportable laptops to buy now

MSI Prestige 13 Evo

For the hybrid workers roaming our cafes, co-working spaces, and public libraries, a laptop is likely a must-have to get work done, even with capable, multitasking foldables like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5. But no one likes to lug around a heavy, bulky computer. That's why ultraportable laptops exist. And they are better than ever, with all-day battery life and fast performance. In addition, many now sport features such as OLED screens, webcams with noise reduction, and biometrics security. Here are five ultraportable laptops that we really liked.

Acer Swift Go 14

Despite being a reasonably-portable 1.32kg, the Acer Swift Go 14 is actually the heaviest laptop in this roundup. To be fair, the Swift Go's 14-inch screen is fractionally larger than the 13-inch displays sported by its rivals. Its 1,440p webcam is also one of the better ones you'll find. Not to mention that the Acer is more affordable than our other picks here.

Asus Zenbook S 13 OLED (2023)

Somehow Asus has managed to reduce the weight of the anorexic Zenbook S 13 OLED even further. The 2023 model is just 1kg, which is a tad lighter than last year's version. But more importantly, Asus has actually improved it — the new model doesn't require a dongle, unlike its predecessor — and has USB-A and HDMI ports.

Meant more for high-level executives, the HP Dragonfly G4 is a great ultraportable notebook. It's super light at under 1kg, and packs plenty of premium features, from cellular connectivity (nano-SIM) to an integrated privacy screen. Battery life is very good, while its low-noise 5MP webcam is excellent for video calls.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon

With a sleek design, rounded edges, and weighing less than a kilogram, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon is probably the best-looking notebook in this roundup. However, it also has a couple more downsides than its rivals. For one, battery life is mediocre, and you'll also need a dongle since it only has two ports (USB-C and Thunderbolt 4). And no headphone jack, either.

The MSI Prestige 13Evo (990g) is as light as the competition. And it lasts just about as long (9hr battery life). It also has both fingerprint and facial recognition, which is great, while the infrared webcam is supported by Tobii Aware's software for presence detection. So you can rest assured that your data is being secured and protected.
