5 things we think you should get in a sale

Sony A95L

It's approaching that time of the year again when you are inundated with tons of sales and deals. Some of these aren't actually bargains, because vendors tend to mark up the prices before discounting them to pre-sale levels. However, there are genuine bargains if you do make the effort to look for them, or if you use coupons. Anyway, we digress. If you're planning to pick up something, make sure these are on your list, because frankly, they are just too useful, and awesome.

Packing even more suction power than the excellent Dyson V12, the Dyson V15 Detect Absolute (HEPA) also comes with the laser Fuffy head to detect dirt and dust. However, the V15 still uses a trigger to start up compared with a button press on the V12. If you have a bigger place to clean, the powerful V15 will definitely prove useful.

The Apple MacBook Air 13 with M3 (2024) comes with a faster chip, the same form factor as the M2 version, and Wi-Fi 6E. You can now also connect it to two external displays (up from one), but you can't use the laptop display while doing so. The Midnight colour version also gets a fingerprint-repelling coating, but we didn't get that model for review.

The latest Arlo Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) upgrades the camera hardware of its predecessor. It also offers a slightly higher resolution (1,944 x 1,944 pixels) than the older Arlo Essential Video Doorbell, though both have a similar 180-degree field of view with a squarish aspect ratio that's more likely to capture footage of any packages left on your doorstep.

The Sony Bravia XR A95L is the best OLED TV of 2023. The LG G3 and Samsung S95C come close, but if money is no object, the A95L should be your pick. With Sony reportedly focusing on Mini-LED TVs this year, the A95L will likely remain Sony's flagship QD-OLED TV in 2024. But I can't see it falling off against the upcoming TVs this year. At least not in picture quality. However, the A95L still has only two HDMI 2.1 ports — two fewer than its main rivals. But that's about the only downside.

The Asus Zenbook Duo (UX8406) is the best dual-screen laptop I have tested so far. Admittedly, I had only tested one such notebook previously — last year's Lenovo Yoga Book 9i. But while the Lenovo was indeed innovative, Asus has further improved the design, and tapped its years-long experience with second screens to create a worthy competitor. Yes, the Lenovo still does some things better, but the Asus Zenbook Duo is my current favourite.
