5 awesome games to play that are not Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

Helldivers 2

If the terribly difficult Elden Ring DLC is not your cup of tea (and it's definitely not mine), then I guess it's time to find something else to play. Luckily, there are plenty of other games to play as well. From city-building simulators, to multiplayer co-op games where you blast tons of evil robots and scary giant insects, we have you covered.

And look, if you rather play awesome games from last year, then feel free to check out five games to play that are not Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Unfortunately, the original Elden Ring is on that list, so feel free to skip that, and try all of the other awesome games there.

Helldivers 2 has come a long way since its launch when it was terribly buggy. While bugs (both software and the enemies you fight) are still around, the software bugs aren't game killers anymore, though we can't say the same for the horrible giant insects that keep killing us.

You'll have fun teaming up with friends and strangers to do objectives, blast the enemies of democracy, and escape from getting overrun after completing your mission. There's also a game master behind the scenes that direct the story line, setting up missions to drive the plot.

Against the Storm

Combining both city building and rogue-like gameplay may seem like a weird pair up, but Against the Storm is one game you'll instantly fall in love with. It comes with layers of depth to keep it engrossing, and feels both chill and frantic at the same time. As the Queen's Viceroy, you start with workers that you control to forage for resources, and make food.

You'll also have to manage your Queen's impatience with you, finish building your settlements, and try to figure out what's wrong with the world before the Storm hits. And at the end of a Storm cycle, everything resets and you have to do so again, but more powerful and wiser as well. It's a ton of fun and I can't recommend this game enough.

If you want an RPG that doesn't require you to keep retrying the boss to learn its patterns, and dying again and again, then last year's role-playing game of the year will be up your alley. It features an epic storyline, lots of banter, easter eggs, and lots of endings.

Choose from multiple characters with their own design and backgrounds, or create your own. Pick from multiple classes, and experience this Dungeons and Dragons RPG epic.

Sure, it's a FromSoft game, but it's one that isn't a Soulsborne game that will make you feel like you're bashing against a wall. Armored Cores VI Fires of Rubicon is a combat mecha game with short missions.

You decide your load out, the type of mech of you will be piloting, and as you explore the planet Rubicon, unlock more parts to change things up. The storytelling is straightforward, while the gameplay is fast and frantic.

Final Fantasy XVI

One of the best Final Fantasy games around, this instalment of the series takes a different approach to other Final Fantasy games with the use of English voice acting — the game was dubbed in English first as opposed to the usual Japanese voice acting.

But as Final Fantasy games go, you get all the usual stuff, including Chocobos, Summons (known as eikons) with epic animations, and a mostly on-rails experience that tells a pretty story. The combat is excellent as well, influenced by Devil May Cry's mechanics, and while you may think it's a lot of button mashing, you'll enjoy chaining combos as you smash your enemies to bits.
