Xiaomi Leshow SS4 Smart Bladeless Standing Fan review: Paltry wind

Xiaomi Mijia Leshow SS4 Standing Bladeless Fan

I haven't been a big fan of bladeless fans, and the Xiaomi Leshow SS4 Smart Bladeless Standing Fan did not change my mind. This tower-shaped fan, even at max speed, doesn't push the air sufficiently. That said, in an air-conditioned area, it will help spread the coolness slightly better. It also comes with Wi-Fi connectivity to the Xiaomi Mi Home app, while the design means you don't have to worry too much about dust build-up.

Quick specs

  • 11 speed modes
  • DC frequency motor
  • 8-hour timer

The SS4 is lightweight and easy to move around. The design is quite sturdy, and with a heavy base, it sits well without rocking. Located at the top is a magnetic dock for the remote control. If you lose the control, you can still use the Mi Home app. The IR sensor of the fan is located at the bottom, so you will need line of sight. I found this annoying when trying to adjust the wind speed from my bed, since it's blocked.

The fan comes with 11 speed modes, including a high wind mode and a low noise mode for sleeping in. Like with most fans, you can pause or set it to swivel. As for the fan speed, I found that anything less than max was barely sufficient in moving the air around. There's no control to angle the air flow up or down. The top of the fan is removable, so you can open it up to clean. Simply twist to unlock it. The power cord is a standard C7 type, so you can replace that with a UK head — the unit comes with a two-pin China plug.

We got the SS4 about a year ago during a sale. Since then, it's been sitting mostly unused because of how weak the air flow is. It's not particularly useful unless it's in an airconditioned room to circulate the air around, or in colder climates where the air isn't dripping with humidity. Because of this, I don't recommend this fan at all, especially at its usual price of S$179 (or more). You're better off getting a stronger bladed fan if you want to keep cool.

The Xiaomi Leshow SS4 Smart Bladeless Standing Fan is a good idea, but not for our climates. You can get it for around S$179 at e-commerce platforms such as Shopee or Lazada. It may take a while to arrive as it ships from China.
