Venture Electronics (VE) has a reputation for inexpensive wired earbuds that sound good. The VE Monk Lite achieves this with a size suited for those with smaller ears.
- Impedance: 40 ohm
- Frequency range: 20 to 20000Hz
- 1.2m cable
- 3.5mm audio jack
Packaging is simple, with a resealable bag containing the Monk Lite and earbud donut foams in red and blue. Mine is the black version with mic, which is along the wire of the right earbud. The rubber-sleeved wires end in a 3.5mm audio jack. The VE Monk Lite was designed for comfort during extended use. This is due to its smaller size, compared to the earlier Monk model. Having tried both models, I did indeed find the Monk Lite more comfortable for my smaller ears when worn for long periods.
The earbud donut foams get loose after a short time of use, and fall out frequently when removing the earbuds from my ear. Being very thin, they also don't last long. Even though extras are provided, I ended up not using them. The earbuds are still comfortable without them, but it becomes harder to identify the left and right buds without the respective blue and red foams.
Most users will be fully satisfied with its sound quality, whether listening to music or watching YouTube videos. The sound signature is balanced, those looking for more bass should look elsewhere. Being earbuds, you will still be able to hear your surroundings, making it ideal for use in the office. The microphone does its job for Zoom calls, transmitting my voice clearly. However, compared to my Apple and Xiaomi wired headsets, I had to speak slightly louder to be heard clearly.
At just S$13 (with mic) on Shopee, the VE Monk Lite earbuds are great value. They are also available on Amazon and Lazada. You get comfort, sound quality and are a great choice especially for those who prefer not to use in-ear headphones.
