Ugreen Nexode 140W Charger review: Fast power

I like fast chargers, and the Ugreen Nexode 140W Charger is kan fast (Singlish for very fast). It's also a GaNFast charger, which uses a power management integrated circuit developed by Navitas. Based on gallium nitride tech, this compact but powerful charger is easily able to juice up your laptop quickly, or split the power between its two USB-C and single USB-A ports.

Quick specs

  • USB-C1 output: 5V⎓3A, 9V⎓3A, 12V⎓3A, 15V⎓3A, 20V⎓5A, 28V⎓5A. 140W Max
  • USB-C2 output: 5V⎓3A, 9V⎓3A, 12V⎓3A, 15V⎓3A, 20V⎓5A. 100W Max
  • USB-A output: 5V⎓4.5A, 4.5V⎓5A, 5V⎓3A, 9V⎓2A, 12V⎓1.5A. 22.5W Max
  • 1.5M USB-C to USB-C cable, 240W max, 480MB/s

Like the Belkin Boost Charge Pro 4-port GaN Charger, the Nexode 140W is compact in size. While it only has three ports to the Belkin's four, this Ugreen charger delivers more power in a single port. The Belkin has a max 108W output, but 96W max in a single port, while the Nexode is capable of juicing 140W solo. However, only the 16-inch Apple MacBook Pro (2021) can fast charge at this rate using a MagSafe 3 cable. The Nexode's second USB-C port can do 100W max alone, while the USB-A port outputs 22.5W max.

The power splits to 65W, 45W, and 22.5W if charging on all three ports. If two USB-C ports are being used, they each output 65W max. When using the USB-A and a USB-C, then it's 22.5W and 100W. For the fastest speed, you should just plug in one cable. Both the Apple MacBook Pro (2021) and Apple MacBook Air with M2 support 140W, but only accept up to 100W. However, you can still fast charge with either a MagSafe 3 cable or the included USB-C cable from Ugreen. 100W is fast enough, and to be fair, most of your charging will hover around the 65W mark. The best use of this charger would be split-charging your Android phone or iPad along with your laptop.

You'll find a 1.5m nylon-braided USB-C to USB-C cable and a user manual inside the box. While I do wish the cable could be longer, it's enough for most desktop setups. I did notice that the areas around the ports get scratched really easily. However, these are cosmetic, and don't affect the performance of the charger. Also, the Nexode does get slightly warm when charging, but isn't worryingly hot.

At S$210, the Ugreen Nexode 140W Charger isn't that cheap. But if you're using the 16-inch MacBook Pro (2021), you'll get the best out of this charger. Otherwise, it's still fast for charging your gear. The compact size and three ports make this a great, albeit expensive charger. Get it from either Shopee or Lazada.
