TP-Link RV20 Mop Plus review: Great value

TP-Link Tapo RV20 Mop Plus

Sometimes, you don't really need an expensive robot vacuum to keep your home clean. The TP-Link RV20 Mop Plus is a great example, offering an upgrade over the RV10, while costing less than the more powerful RV30. And yet, it also comes with a 4L auto-empty dock, and a mopping module for the Mop Plus version.

Quick specs

  • Suction: 4 levels at 2,700Pa (vacuum), 27,000Pa (dock)
  • Wet mopping with 300ml water bin
  • 2,600mAh battery for up to 3 hours of cleaning
  • Lidar, automapping, multiple floor mapping

The RV20 shares a lot of the RV30‘s features, such as lidar-powered mapping, a water tank, and mopping. You can also schedule cleaning sessions on the app. One thing I noticed is that the RV20 is 16.5mm slimmer compared with the RV30. This allows it to fit under your sofa much easier. Like the RV30, it will take a few runs for the RV20 to learn your place. It will get stuck at first, but it will figure it out. The RV20 was mostly fine over the two weeks I was testing it.

I tested the RV20 at my place which had rugs, concrete flooring, and laminate. It handled all the surfaces well, and used the same up-and-down pattern of the RV30 to clean the place. Since the RV20's max suction power is 2,700Pa versus the 4,200Pa of the RV30, it's a lot quieter. In fact, when it went under my sofa, I could barely hear it. You will have to monitor it while in mopping mode, as it won't avoid carpets. You will have to set up no-go zones, but that also means it won't vacuum carpets while in normal use.

Cleaning takes about an hour for a four-room HDB flat, and you can use the Tapo app to set up schedules, map your home, set no-go zones, or just use it to clean specific rooms. It can also climb ledges that are 2cm high. You get three hours of cleaning on the 2,600mAh battery, and if it runs out, it will automatically return to the docking station to recharge before cleaning again. The 4L dust bag can store about 70 days of dirt.

At S$319 for the whole setup, including the dock, and the mop, the TP-Link RV20 Mop Plus offers great value for its price. It may not be the most powerful of robot vacuums, but it does have good features and cleans the place well. Get it from Shopee or Lazada.
