Tack GPS Location Tracker review: Easy tracking

Sometimes there's a genuine need to keep track of a loved one's location. Maybe it's a senior that loves moving around, or a pet that may wander off on its own. The Tack GPS Location Tracker makes it easy to do so, with the ability to report its location every two minutes in emergency mode. Make sure to get permission first!

Quick specs

  • Weighs 30g
  • Next-gen mobile IoT network with SIM card
  • 30-day battery life
  • Accuracy: 3 to 5 meters outdoor, 10 to 30m indoors

Setting up the tracker is pretty easy. Just download the app, scan the QR code at the back of the device, and voila, it's good to go. The tracker comes with its own internet connection, which requires a subscription. The first 30 days are free, after that you can sign up for a US$3.29/month plan for a year, or a US$2.99/month plan for two years. However, if you don't have a subscription, the device won't work.

The tracker comes with three modes: Power Saving, Standard, and Active. I've kept the unit on Active during my testing period. Standard reports the tracker's location when it is moved every hour, Active, every 10 minutes, and Power Saving in four hours. There's also an Emergency mode that will report the location every two minutes for an hour. I do like that the Emergency mode can be activated through the app or manually by double-pressing the only button on the tracker.

You can also set a geofence, so the tracker will alert you when it leaves the zone. The Tack GPS tracker is also smart enough to figure out active hours based on your movement and change the reporting time. You can use it with a pet, but the device is a bit too big for my cat. I'm guessing it's better for larger animals. There's also a pet mode that optimises the battery when it's worn by a pet. The tracker has a 30-day rated battery life. I found this accurate with my test unit. After about 18 days of use, the Tack GPS unit had about 46% left. You can recharge it with a USB-C cable.

At S$105, Tack GPS Location Tracker is an easy way to keep track of your loved ones. I couldn't test it on my pet, but I assume it would work similarly. The size also makes it a bit difficult to illegally plant it on someone. Get it on Lazada, Shopee or directly from the official site.
