Samsung Smart Monitor M7 review: Great for entertainment

Samsung Smart Monitor M7

The 32-inch Samsung Smart Monitor M7 has everything you want in a display for watching your shows. Whether it be from Netflix, Disney+, or Amazon Prime Video, this monitor will hold up to your entertainment needs. But if you're looking for a gaming monitor with higher refresh rates, this is not it. That said, this 60hz monitor is perfect for console gaming, given that most games are capped at 60 fps (though newer games now go up to 120fps).

Quick specs

  • 32-inch UHD 3,840 x 2,160 pixels resolution
  • HDMI 2.0 x2, USB-C (65W)
  • Tizen OS
  • Has Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video apps

The Ultra High Definition (UHD) resolution of the Samsung monitor means you're getting all the 4K pixels you need for a crisp image. The monitor comes with two HDMI ports, with one port also supporting HDMI ARC. That means you can plug in an Atmos sound bar (but that's likely going to be even bigger than your monitor) for better audio. The monitor has built-in two-channel speakers, but feels very tiny, and lacks a strong bass. You can also use Bluetooth to connect to an external speaker or headphone. There's also a USB-C port that delivers 65W of power and can also transfer data, perfect for laptops. There's are no DisplayPorts.

Configuring the M7 can be a bit tricky, as it has no physical buttons unlike traditional monitors. You'll need to use the remote to tweak the settings and connect to Wi-Fi, as well as choose from a variety of picture modes. I generally used the Standard setting to keep it consistent. Colors were vibrant (thanks to HDR) and watching content on the built-in Netflix app was great. You will have to sign in to your Samsung account to download more apps, such as Disney+. If you want to switch back to the PC, you will have to use the remote, but there's no dedicated button.

I tried gaming with my PC, while my GPU couldn't quite handle Cyberpunk 2077 in 4K, Dota 2 looked great in that resolution. Because of how crisp everything is, I loved how the game looked. However, a lower refresh rate may not be ideal for the more competitive sort. I think the M7 is perfect for those who want all their entertainment concentrated in one spot but don't want a TV for it. Plus, a TV would make it really hard to work with since you likely be too close to the screen. Lastly, there's one thing you need to take note of — the default stand is really only good for tilting, you can't raise or lower the monitor.

The Samsung Smart Monitor M7 is a great entertainment monitor. The 32-inch size allows you to soak in all your video content when you're taking a break. While working, the 4K resolution gives you more space to use. The M7 is available on Lazada and Shopee for S$898.
