Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6

There's quite a bit to (pardon the pun) unpack for Samsung's latest product launch. You get new foldable phones: Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6; new smartwatches: Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 and Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra; and new earbuds: Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 Pro and Samsung Galaxy Buds 3. These products will be available in stores on July 24, but you can pre-order them starting today.

Whether it's inflation or lack of competition, what's notable is that prices have increased by up to S$200 for the foldable phones. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 will retail at a starting price of S$2,548 for the 256GB model (up from the Fold 5‘s S$2,398), S$2,728 for the 512GB, and S$3,088 for the 1TB version. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 costs S$1,648 for the 256GB model (up from the Flip 5‘s S$1,498) and S$1,828 (512GB).

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 does away with the rounded edges of the previous model. It's also marginally slimmer, lighter, and packs Galaxy AI features such as audio transcription, and generative AI tools that let you sketch something and turn it into an art piece. But hardware-wise, it's an iterative upgrade with key specs, like the use of the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, battery capacity, and the screen size mostly unchanged (the cover screen is 0.1 inch larger).

Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 comes with a better 50MP main camera, and a new camera feature called FlexZoom, which automatically expands the image area, and frames all the people in the photo when you're shooting hands-free. It's a pretty neat trick.

As for the Galaxy Watch 7, the 40mm version is S$548, while the 44mm version is S$598. But all eyes will be on the new, premium Galaxy Watch Ultra (S$988), which is aimed at the high-end fitness enthusiasts. Both are the first smartwatches to be powered by Google's Wear OS 5. The Galaxy Watch Ultra comes with a titanium frame, and can track triathlons. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Watch 7 will track your usual fitness and health metrics, including sleep, blood pressure, ECG, and more.

The biggest redesign, though, goes to the new Samsung Galaxy earbuds. Both the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro (S$358) and the Galaxy Buds 3 (S$258) now look a, little like Apple's AirPods. A cool new feature is the ability to use them to hear live translation using Samsung's Interpreter app with a paired Galaxy Z Fold 6 or Galaxy Z Flip 6. The Pro version also has LED strips down the stem called Blade Lights.
