If there's one Android phone to rule them all, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is it. Sporting a huge 6.8-inch OLED display, four rear cameras with 10x optical zoom, and S-Pen support like the old Note series, the S22 Ultra is definitely worth it, despite the high price.
Quick specs
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 (4nm)
- 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, 12GB RAM and 256GB/512GB storage
- 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X, 120Hz, HDR10+, 3,088 x 1,440 pixels resolution
- IP68 dust/water resistant
Fast and snappy, the S22 Ultra uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip. You definitely won't have any issues with the performance. The large 6.8-inch screen is bright and vibrant, even in bright sunlight. That's because brightness goes up to 1,200 nits in high brightness mode. Playing games with the phone is fantastic, the almost bezel-less OLED display just pops out. The only issue I have is the speaker buzzing against my right hand while gaming in landscape mode. It's not an issue exclusive to the S22 Ultra — most phones are in the same boat.

The cameras of the S22 Ultra are great. The four camera setup consists of a 108MP wide, 10MP 230mm telephoto, another 10MP 70mm telephoto, and a 12MP ultrawide. I was honestly quite impressed. While the phone goes up to 100x digital zoom, 30X seems to be the sweet spot for image quality for digital. 10x optical is great but expect to lose some details. Low-light pictures are excellent, even with 10x optical zoom. There's plenty of details, though the loss of detail from the 10x zoom is still present. Macro works like a treat, too.

Additionally, the inclusion of the S-Pen makes the S22 Ultra the de facto successor of the Galaxy Note phones. It has all the features of the previous Note 20, including handwriting recognition. I also like that you can use the S-Pen to take a picture. Battery life is good at 10 hours 46 minutes in our video test. This was tested without the extra-brightness mode. Expect the phone to run out faster if you're toggling that on.
Retailing at S$1,718 for the 128GB model, and up to S$1,998 for 512GB, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is one heck of a flagship phone. If you don't need the S-Pen feature, the S22+ is also worthy of consideration, though camera performance will differ with only 3x optical zoom. Get it from Lazada or the official store.
