Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro review: Premium sound

Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro

There’s plenty to like about the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro. The bean-shaped wireless earbuds pack great sound in the form of clear trebles and solid bass. Factor in solid active noise cancelling (ANC), voice detection to cancel ANC when you're talking, and you have a winner.

Quick specs

  • 2-way speakers with sound by AKG
  • Noise-free calls
  • IPX7 water resistance

The in-ear Buds Pro seals off sound effectively, even with ANC turned off. Three pairs of extra rubber tips in different sizes are also provided by Samsung for the right fit. With ANC turned on, you’ll barely hear ambient noises, helping you focus. The Voice Detect feature is my favourite feature. It detects when you are talking, and automatically switches to Ambient mode to let you hear around you. Ambient mode makes you feel like a superhero as it enhances the sound around you.

You will have to turn this feature on with an Android device, as the Buds Pro is not supported on the iOS app yet. You will also need the Android app to configure the various features, such as the touch settings. The default touch and hold option switches you between ANC and Ambient, and you can change that to say, activating a voice assistant or volume controls. The equalizer settings and firmware updates are accessed via the app as well. There’s also seamless switching between Galaxy devices, much like the Apple AirPods Pro.

Music playback was great. I really loved how clear voices were and bass is boomy (when needed). Mids came through clearly and accurately. However, the 360 degree spatial audio only works with devices running Android One UI version 3.1 and above, such as the Galaxy S21. Battery life with ANC on lasted well over four hours, close to the rated five hours. You can get another 13 hours by charging it in the case, which also charges wirelessly with any Qi charger. Lastly, the Buds Pro also has IPX7 water resistance, but you should not swim with this at the pool or the beach.

The Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro offers fantastic sound and cool features that make it a standout in the wireless earbuds space. You can get it online from e-commerce platforms such as Shopee, Lazada, or Amazon for as low as S$208, down from its original launch price of S$308.
