BenQ Zowie EC2-CW review: Pricey esports mouse

BenQ Zowie EC2-CW

The BenQ Zowie EC2-CW is the first wireless mouse from the gaming hardware brand. Shape and build quality are its biggest plus points, but this mouse also comes with a big price tag. It is available now for S$249 from Lazada and Shopee.

Quick specs

  • 77g
  • DPI: 400/800/1600/3200
  • 2.4GHz wireless, USB 2.0/3.0
  • 70hr battery life

The EC2-CW has a right-handed design, and feels right for my palm grip use. This is almost identical to the wired Zowie EC, which has a sizable fan base, in no small part because of its shape and size. The EC2-CW has a smooth matte black finish with no lights on the top surface, aside from a row of three white LEDs that show battery level when charging. The mouse buttons and scroll wheel are responsive, and make audible clicks when in use. I had no issues with speed and accuracy in games, or during daily use. However, those who prefer quieter, softer buttons should look elsewhere. At 77g, the EC2-CW is sufficiently light, but note that some wireless mice in this class now weigh under 60g.

Accuracy and tracking are excellent during FPS games. The black mouse skates provided are smooth, but doesn't feel super fast. Those who want something that flies across their mousepad can replace them with speedier skates. On the bottom is a button to switch between three polling rates (125Hz, 500Hz, 1000Hz), and another to cycle through four DPI (400, 800, 1600, 3200) settings. Being on the bottom, this mouse is not suitable for gamers who need to change DPI on the fly.

The power switch is also at the base. The center position is “off”, left position is for using the USB wireless receiver, while the right position is for the Enhanced Wireless Receiver, which doubles as a charging dock. The convenience of this dock means charging is never forgotten, and most users will likely never fully deplete the mouse's 70-hour battery.

The BenQ Zowie EC2-CW doesn’t have any one standout feature compared with mice in the high-end price category. But even though it's not the lightest, and doesn't have 4000Hz polling, the solid build quality and a shape that many gamers, including pros, have sworn by, are huge plus factors. Ultimately, if you've never used a Zowie EC series, try it before you buy it from Lazada or Shopee.
