The redesigned Oppo Reno8 Pro oozes premium quality. It looks quite stunning. It also comes with the same MariSilicon X neural processing unit (NPU) on the Oppo Find X5 Pro for great-looking videos. That means 4K night videos (but not 60fps).
Quick specs
- MediaTek Dimensity 8100-MAX
- 12GB RAM, 256GB storage
- 4,500mAh battery, 80W SuperVOOC fast charger
- Cameras: 50MP, 8MP ultra-wide, 2MP macro, 32MP front
Unlike the Reno7 Pro with its matte glass rear, the Reno8 Pro takes a bold approach with a shiny glass rear. It's visually striking, especially the black version. It's also a giant fingerprint magnet. I do like that the rear is a single piece, and the way the glass curves upwards to the camera housing is very pretty. With just a punch-hole for the front camera, this phone is all screen. There's hardly any bezel to distract from the viewing experience.

The Reno8 Pro sports a 50MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide, and a 2MP macro. It's not as good as the Find X5 Pro‘s triple camera system. Zoom is only around 2x, but you can digitally zoom in — to get a blurred mess — for up to 20x. Images were generally fine, with nice colours and details. The 8MP ultra-wide shots are decent, but not the best. The macro camera does an good job for close-up shots. 4K night video at 30fps works as long as you have a bit of light, and the Ultra steady mode is great for smooth panning video.

The 6.7-inch AMOLED display is bright, vibrant, and supports HDR for Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. The dual speakers also made watching videos on the phone enjoyable. While it has a 120Hz refresh rate, I couldn't turn it on for Wild Rift — 90fps was the maximum. Speaking of games, I had no issues running games on the phone's MediaTek Dimensity 8100-Max chip. The phone also didn't feel overly warm while gaming. Our battery life video tests showed a runtime of around 12hr 54mins. The phone's 80W fast charger will juice it up to 40% in just 11 minutes, and around 88% in 30 minutes.
The Oppo Reno8 Pro is a beautiful phone that delivers flagship performance. You'll like the beautiful unibody design, while the bright, beautiful screen is a stunner. Preorder it for S$1,099 at Shopee, Lazada, or Amazon from August 24.
