The Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro is its more premium smartwatch yet. With a titanium frame, sapphire glass surface and a ceramic back, the GT 2 Pro looks fantastic. In fact, it actually looks better in real life than in the pictures.
Quick specs
- Titanium and sapphire glass
- 1.39-inch Amoled screen
- 46.7 x 46.7 x 11.4mm, 52g
- Requires smartphone with Android 5.0+ or iOS 9+
Essentially a higher-end version of last year's GT 2, the Pro adds wireless charging and some software tweaks that improve the overall experience. With its round watch face and classy appearance, the Pro can probably pass off as a dress watch. Its 1.39-inch (46mm) Amoled screen means the watch will appear slightly oversized for those with skinny wrists. The display itself is sharp, vivid and bright enough to be visible in the glare of noon.
After pairing it with your smartphone via the Huawei Health app (for Android and iOS phones), the Pro can be used to answer or reject incoming phones calls, control music playback on the phone and view notifications. A downside here: you can view but cannot respond to notifications through the watch.
Another potential dealbreaker is the lack of third-party apps like Strava or Spotify. Meanwhile, some features, such as using the watch to remotely snap a photo with the paired phone's camera, require a compatible Huawei smartphone. But the Pro makes up with tons of fitness and health tracking features. It can track steps, swim laps, monitor your sleep and stress, as well as heart rate and oxygen saturation (SpO2) levels. It can even start tracking certain physical activities (outdoor walk) automatically. I found both the sleep and step tracking to be spot-on.
Huawei rates the Pro to last around two weeks on a single charge. For me, the battery dipped by around 10% after 24 hours of use. This is still a lot better than most smartwatches. Best of all, you can easily recharge the watch by placing it on any Qi-compatible wireless charging pad. The S$398 GT 2 Pro is a fair bit more expensive than the standard GT 2 (S$268), but its classy good looks is well worth it.
