The Hoto Electric Screwdriver Kit has what I like about the Xiaomi Mijia Cordless Electric Screwdriver, but in a cylindrical form factor. It comes with 12 steel bits: Four hexagons, four crosses, three torx, and one flathead. However, it does not come with an extension bit. It's useful if you need to assemble Ikea furniture, or tinker around with your PC.
- Weight: 250g
- Rated voltage: 3.6V, up to 220rpm
- Hexagon, cross, torx and flathead screw bits
Unlike the drill-shaped Xiaomi screwdriver, the Hoto feels more like a screwdriver. It sits comfortably in the hand. The rubber material gives it a nice grip, but I worry that it will become sticky after some time. The forward or reverse buttons are at the right place for your thumb to hit. You do have shift your hand downwards if you want to change the torque. There are three levels of torque, but I can't really tell the difference between them.
Compared to the Xiaomi's design, the Hoto is a bit of a hassle to use one-handed. I could easily toggle the modes on the Xiaomi while still maintaining a grip, but not so for the Hoto. It's a small thing, but it makes the Xiaomi Mijia Cordless Electric Screwdriver slightly better. The Hoto goes up to 4N⋅m (newton metre) of torque. It's enough for most stuff, but for heavier work, you should use a manual screwdriver to tighten.
The Hoto comes with a 1,500mAh battery that's good for more than 1,000 screws. It recharges via USB-C, and will work with PD ports, too. The screwdriver comes with a storage case where all the bits are held securely at the edges. The screwdriver fits right in the middle. The metal storage case is also pretty sturdy, which should protect your screwdriver from damage. There's a loop at the top of the case for carrying around or hanging.
At around S$40, the Hoto Electric Screwdriver Kit is a worthy pickup for those who haven't yet gotten a set. If you don't have the Mijia Cordless, you can get this. I picked this up when my Mijia Cordless finally died after three years of use. It's a bit more expensive, but the cylindrical design is more to my taste. Either electric screwdrivers are great pickups, though. Get the Hoto from Shopee, Lazada, or Amazon SG.
