LG PuriCare AeroTower Air Purifying Fan review: Soft wind

LG PuriCare AeroTower

Much like the Dyson range of air purifier fans, the LG PuriCare AeroTower Air Purifying Fan aims to suck bad air in, clean it, and push it back out. If you are looking for a tower fan, this might not be ideal, as fan speed is relatively weak in our humid weather unless you set it at maximum. I could barely feel a breeze at medium settings from a distance of about 1.5 meters.

Quick specs

  • HEPA filter with UVnano, PM 1.0 and gas sensor
  • Auto, 1-10 steps, turbo, sleep speeds
  • 45/60/90/140 degrees oscillation

Much like the LG PuriCare Air Purifier Pet Mode with Clean Booster, the AeroTower does a good job in sucking up stuff in the air. After about two weeks of use, I found quite a bit of cat hair on the filter, and fur on the outside trying to get in. That's a good sign that it's working well. Interestingly, I did not find any fur on the ground, unlike the PuriCare Air Purifier. Replacing the filter is also easy. The bottom compartment detaches via magnets, and you just pull it out to swap.

One thing I didn't like about the AeroTower is its lacklustre fan performance. Much like the Dyson range, it doesn't use external blades to move air. Instead it relies on the Coandă effect to push air towards you between its two towers. That results in a very soft breeze at anything below 5, and as mentioned earlier, you'll barely feel it. At speed 10 or Turbo, you will, but then the fan gets loud. I do like that you can also press a button to make the fan blow air upwards instead. What happens is that two plastic strips come out from the sides to direct the air towards the top.

Air purifying performance is decent. I set the fan speed to Auto, and sprayed some air freshener. The LG ThinQ app immediately showed that the air quality had worsened, the AeroTower started kicking into high gear to remove the pollutants. Two minutes later, it showed that PM2.5 count had dropped, but the odour was still strong. While the app did show that overall air quality was still poor, most of that is due to the odour setting, which was still “very strong”. But that's fine, since it's an air freshener and I want the smell!

At S$1,099, the LG PuriCare AeroTower Air Purifying Fan is decent at cleaning your air, but not as a fan. It suffers the same issues I had with another similar fan, the Xiaomi Leshow SS4 Smart Bladeless Standing Fan. If you're in an air-conditioned room all day, then the AeroTower may actually make sense to circulate the air. Get it from Shopee or Lazada.
