Dyson Pet Grooming Kit review: Cumbersome brushing

Dyson Pet Grooming Kit

While the Dyson Pet Grooming Kit does an admirable job of brushing your pet, it's a bit difficult to use while it's attached to your Dyson vacuum. That's because the tubing in this S$99 kit doesn't stay extended, and you have to fight against pulling your cordless vacuum while trying to brush your cat or dog.

Quick specs

  • For medium and long haired pets
  • Press up and down to eject fur
  • 364 angled bristles
  • Compatible with most Dyson cordless (except Omniglide)

That's not to say I'm writing off the Pet Grooming Kit completely. The brush design is smart. You push down on the head, and it works wonders in pulling loose fur from my cat. By repeatedly pushing up and down while the vacuum is running, it will easily suck the fur away to clean your brush. It's not 100% perfect, there will be still some stray fur, but it will be clean enough.

My issue, though, is that if the kit is attached to say, a Dyson V15, trying to extend it will somewhat drag the vacuum along. The 100cm extension hose keeps trying to snap back in place, which makes it tiresome to stretch it out. It's also awkward to use the brush while trying to make sure the V15 doesn't topple over. I found it easier to just brush with the kit detached, then plug it in to suck the fur away. But if you're doing that, then you may as well use a normal brush.

One way to get around this is to use your foot to hold down on the vacuum, but that's all kinds of awkward. Also if you're using the V15, you can't keep the suction on. It also depends on your pet — my cats aren't afraid of the vacuum sound. So I can leave the suction on with the Dyson V12. Brushing my cats this way seem to catch stray dander easier.

Overall, the Dyson Pet Grooming Kit works, but it's pretty cumbersome to use. I don't think it's worth the S$99 you're paying for. You're probably better off just using a standard brush, and then a vacuum to suck the fur away. If you're still keen though, get it from Shopee, Lazada, or Dyson directly.
