Having paid way too much for the extremely terrible Duo Cover Magnetic Microwave Cover, I'm telling you now to skip it. But if you're still keen on getting one, I would recommend an off-brand version instead of the Kickstarter version I bought, which basically overcharged me for shipping. I would have been fine with that, but the product just doesn't work well, so yeah, give this a miss.
Quick specs
- Microwave and dishwasher safe
- Magnets for sticking to the top of your oven
- Collapsible for storage
The Duo Cover has a few functions. It keeps splatter in, helps steam your food, and protects your fingers from getting burns. However, while it does keep splatter in, I'm not too sure about the steaming part. At the top of the cover is a hole where you can pour water in. When you're steaming your food, the steam from inside pushes it open and water will drip in to keep your food moist.

This sounds great in theory, until you need to remove the cover. Then the leftover hot water cascades down the sides, and scalds your finger. It happened to me. Ouch. Also, this was after five minutes of steaming. I noticed quite a bit of water remaining, so I'm guessing not much water dripped in. Another thing is you're supposed to be able to use the heat-resistant silicone cover to carry your bowl out, but alas, the cover is hot, too.

The cover is a bit large for smaller microwaves. While it can fit, there's not much space to manoeuvre or pour water on the lid. You have to do it before putting the cover on your food. The Duo Cover also has magnets, so you can store it in your oven by snapping it to the top. It's microwave safe — I tested this. And again, depending on your microwave, it may not fit well (see above). Otherwise it folds down pretty flat for easy storage.
At US$39, the Duo Cover Magnetic Microwave Cover is a waste of money since it doesn't really do the job well. I recommend getting an off-brand version from Lazada or Shopee, which is much cheaper at around S$15. Furthermore, these off-brands seemed to be available even before the Kickstarter product campaign had shipped. Otherwise, the official version is available on Amazon SG.
