Creative's latest offering is great proof we don't always need to spend too much for good gaming audio. The Creative HS-720 v2 does this for cheap at S$49, offering great-sounding audio and is pretty comfortable to wear for a while. The second version also offers more muted colors, compared to the shiny silver highlights of the first model.
- USB-A connector
- 2m cable
- 30mm drivers
Despite its low-ish price, the H-720 has a pretty good build, with padded leatherette headbands and earcups. The on-ear headphones use a USB connector, and works on both Windows and Mac without the need to install drivers. It also has a convenient controller that lets you adjust the volume, mute, and a play or answer a call button. Pressing and holding the mute button turns on the mic monitoring function, which lets you hear yourself. Pressing and holding the volume keys also skips or goes back a track. The on-ears offer pretty good sound isolation, too.
I mentioned that the headphones have good sound, and it does. Bass is punchy without being overwhelming, while the mids and highs are clear and crisp. The soundstage is somewhat wide, but you'll still feel like in the center of the music. While it's not 7.1 channels for say, gaming, the 30mm drivers still pack quite a punch.
The non-detachable microphone features noise-cancelling, which should help with windy situations such as when you're facing a fan. My tests show that it does cancel wind noise, but you'll notice a slight drop in quality when it is working. However, in a relatively quiet place away from the fan, you'll sound really, really, good. With the H-720, you'll be able to deliver clear raid commands, or sound great at business Zoom meetings.
