BenQ Zowie U2 review: Good for FPS

zowie u2 wireless mouse

One of the complaints I had about the Zowie EC2-CW gaming mouse last year was that it wasn't as light as others in the same category. The latest Zowie U2 wireless mouse from BenQ solves this problem with its lighter 60g weight. It features a smaller, symmetrical design, and retains all the features we liked about the EC2-CW.

Quick specs:

  • 60g
  • DPI: 400/800/1600/3200
  • 70 hour battery life
  • PixArt 3395 sensor

Though symmetrical, the Zowie U2 is made for right-handers, as shown by the position of the thumb buttons. Zowie specifically designed this mouse for claw grippers, with a narrow curved profile. According to the company, this is supposed to provide agility and stability during mouse lift. In use, I found the Zowie U2 comfortable for my smaller hands for FPS gaming. The placement and size of the thumb buttons also made them easy to press with my claw grip. As with the EC2-CW, the buttons on the Zowie U2 are responsive, and make quite an audible click sound. The mouse skates are really smooth, and an extra set is provided in the retail package.

There's nothing flashy about the design of the Zowie U2 at all. It is clad entirely in black with a small red Zowie logo where your palm rests. This no-frills approach aligns well with their positioning, focusing on esports performance. There's no fancy software to download either. So you get the mouse, and adjust settings entirely using two buttons and a switch at the base. These control polling rate up to 1000Hz, DPI between four settings, and the switch to turn it on or off — simple as that.

Like the brand's other wireless gaming mice, the Zowie U2 has both a regular USB wireless receiver and an Enhanced Wireless Receiver. The latter will give you a better wireless signal, and should be your default choice. It also acts as a charging dock, delivering power using pogo pins. I love this feature as it's super convenient, and the likelihood of forgetting to charge is very low. I did use the mouse, fully charged to depleted, and got a very respectable 10 days. Zowie rates the mouse at 70 hours on a single charge.

The Zowie U2 Wireless Mouse is a welcome addition to the company's lineup, putting it in line with mice like the Logitech G Pro X Superlight 2 when it comes to weight. It still doesn't have 4,000/8,000Hz polling compared with gaming mice in the same price range. However, fans of Zowie mice won't mind that too much, and though pricey at S$249 on Shopee and Lazada, it's a very good mouse for claw-gripping FPS gamers.
