Belkin Connect USB-C to 4-Port USB-C Hub review: Lots of USB-C

Belkin USB-C to 4-port USB-C Hub

The Belkin Connect USB-C to 4-Port USB-C Hub greatly expands the number of USB-C ports for your computer. It is especially helpful for notebooks that come with just one or two USB-C ports, like the latest MacBook Air or even the more expensive 14-inch MacBook Pro. It only has USB-C ports, unlike most many-in-one hubs, which typically have more USB-A than USB-C ports. So if your transition to USB-C is almost done, this Belkin hub may suit you better.

Quick specs:

  • USB-C pass-through charging (provides 85W to host)
  • 4x USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 ports
  • Up to 10Gbps transfer speeds

One of the four ports on this Belkin hub supports pass-through charging up to 100W. So after plugging it into your notebook, and using the Power Delivery (PD) port for your charger, you still have three USB-C ports for your other devices. With a 100W charger, up to 85W will go to charging your notebook. This will be sufficient for most laptops, save the most demanding prosumer or gaming notebooks. If you don't need the PD port for charging, it works perfectly fine as a fourth USB-C port for your accessories.

One feature Belkin advertises is its support for Fast Role Swap, which ensures that the hub doesn't lose power when you detach the power supply cable connected to the PD port. I tested this out, transferring data to and from my external SSD connected to a MacBook Air through the hub. As claimed, power did not cut off when I removed or reattached the charging cable. Do note that this isn't a Belkin feature, but a USB PD 3.0 function, and should be standard for USB 3.0 and newer hubs. I regularly use two other USB 3.0 hubs from Ugreen and Dockcase, and both passed this test as well.

Since this Belkin hub is a USB 3.2 product, it supports data transfers of up to 10Gbps. It comes in black, and is light and compact enough to carry around. However, the glossy plastic finish is a fingerprint magnet. There's also no silver or metal option if you want it to match a metal-chassis notebook.

The Belkin USB-C to 4-port USB-C Hub is available from Belkin's Amazon SG store for S$66, or S$79 from its Lazada store. Though I did find cheaper alternatives online, they are either from lesser-known brands or do not support pass-through charging. If you are looking for something with more expansion options like video-out and USB-A, Belkin also makes a 7-in-1 hub which costs S$110.
