BeBird Note 5 review: Eargasmic cleaning

BeBird Note 5

As a long-time user of the Xiaomi BeBird M9 Pro, I was excited — nay, ecstatic — when I got my hand on the BeBird Note 5. It pretty much upgrades all aspects of the ear pick, including a better camera, brighter light, and a mechanical tweezer.

Quick specs

  • 10MP camera with gimbal gyroscope
  • IP67, USB-C charging
  • Wi-Fi 2.4GHz

One thing stands out though — the scoops are a lot less fragile in comparison to the ones on the M9 Pro. Instead of a fragile plastic bit attached to the earstick, the silicon scoop is stuck at the ends of the tweezer. Because the tweezer opens up when not pressed, it also acts to keep the scoop held in place. The scoop has yet to fall out while I'm scraping my ear wax, unlike the M9 Pro, which had two of the plastic scoops break.

To clean your ear with the Note 5, you'll need the BeBird app. Then connect to the stick's Wi-Fi, and you're good to go. The 10MP camera delivers a clean image, and the light is bright with no shadows. The bright light definitely impressed me. It made everything show up in detail (including how waxy my ear is). If you find the image a bit blurry, just use rubbing alcohol on a cotton bud to clean the lens. Scrapping is also great, the softer silicon scoop was gentle on the ear, and I didn't feel like it was going to break if I used a bit more force. It also comes with a bunch of scoops with different sizes, though they all looked the same to me. Battery life is less than an hour based on my tests.

The tweezers though, are a hit and miss. I was worried about sticking a slightly more pointy tweezer in, but the silicon tipped ends aren't sharp. I would still exercise some caution, though. However, the tips make it easier to scrape those stubborn wax. Using it to grip loose wax is challenging, especially getting a hang of the 3D space inside your ear. But pulling out wax pieces is tons of fun, though you have to wait a few days for it to build up. There's a guard you can attach if you don't want to go in too deep.

At S$98 on Indiegogo without factoring shipping, the BeBird Note 5 is a bit more expensive than its other offerings. However, it's similar in price to the Note3 Pro, which this version is an upgrade of. I think the features, ease of use, and comfortable scoops make this the best ear digger yet. Get it here.
