Sporting a changeable magnetic head that allows you to swap between three different connection types, the Baseus Magnetic Cable makes a lot of sense for those who use different devices and want to charge them without changing cables. Of course, you can use the Oatsbasf Magic Box to slowly charge them all at the same time, but the Baseus Magnetic Cable offers an elegant solution — if you just need to charge one at a time.
Quick specs
- 3A or 5A current variants
- Interchangeable Lightning, Type-C, and Micro-USB connectors
- Braided
How it works is simple, instead of a fixed head, the Baseus cable uses magnets to snap on either a Lightning, USB Type-C, or Micro-USB connector. The magnets are pretty strong, and keep the cable and connector stuck together when charging, but a slight twist will disengage it. The cable is best when you're leaving your device on the table and not interacting with it. You can also leave the connector plug in your device like a dust plug, and simply just snap the charging cable head into place to charge. This also reminded me of Apple's MagSafe for its laptops — you can just quickly disengage the cable when picking up the phone to answer a call.
It comes in various configurations, including one that supports fast charging with a 5A current. I bought the 3A version. You can get the 5A version if your output supports that speed, but my power banks only support 3.6A output so I gave the 5A cable a miss. It's only a dollar or two more for the 5A cable over the 3A version though. Do check your charger before making a decision on what you need.
There's still plenty to like about this Baseus cable. I can quickly change the head to the right type of connector, and these connectors are conveniently stored on a clip on the cable. This means I can just bring one of these along when working out in the field, or when overseas travel opens up again to charge up my multiple devices on the plane.
Retailing at about S$10.29 for the 3A version, you can grab it from e-commerce platforms such as Shopee or Lazada. It's a pretty good buy if you use it in the right scenarios, but it's not for those who prefer a more “permanent” charging connection such as this Mcdodo cable.
