Have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep because of noise? Consider using Attenu8 earplugs, which claim to reduce noise by around 32 decibels. These earplugs seem easier to fit into my ears than disposable foam earplugs. And you can reuse them — you just have to replace the memory foam tips after around six to eight weeks.
Quick specs
- Reduce noise by around 32 decibels
- 3 sizes of memory foam tips and a pair of bottom foam tips for side sleepers.
- Concave aluminium body weighing 1g each
The last time I wore earplugs was at the firing range. And it was always somewhat of a struggle trying to insert the earplugs and keeping them in place. However, I had no problems with the Attenu8 earplugs, which are designed by a Singapore firm. The Attenu8's thin metal body allows for a good grip. It's like inserting a pair of in-ear headphones, except that the Attenu8 is lighter and smaller.

The Attenu8 comes with three sizes of memory foam tips. The default S size tips fit my ears well. The earplugs does a decent enough job of reducing ambient noise, but you can still hear your surroundings. So you don't have to worry that you'll miss your alarm. The Attenu8 earplugs have a similar noise reduction rating as the disposable foam earplugs. They work slightly better at dampening the higher frequencies compared to deeper sounds. I would say a pair of earbuds with active noise cancellation enabled are better at reducing the noise than the Attenu8, but the earplugs are cheaper, lighter, and do not require any battery power.

As I sleep on my back, I have no problems with using the earplugs while sleeping. Attenu8 includes a pair of bottom foam tips for those who sleep on their sides. You attach these tips to the earplugs such that the metallic ends don't poke your ears when sleeping on your side.
Attenu8 includes a mesh pouch to store the earplugs. But if you're using the earplugs to protect your hearing at concerts or jam sessions, I recommend getting a lanyard (S$7.90 on Attenu8's website) so you won't lose them easily. The memory foam tip replacements cost S$10.90 for a pair of three at the website. The Attenu8 earplugs are priced at S$38.90, but you can get 20% off with the promo code ‘GETMYPEACE20’. This promotion is valid till 31st December 2021 on Attenu8's website. You can also buy the earplugs on Shopee.
