Asus ROG Mjolnir hands-on: Not for throwing

Asus ROG Mjolnir

If a hammer-shaped portable uninterruptible power supply (UPS) is what you want, then the Asus ROG Mjolnir is probably what you're looking for. Packing a 768 watt-hour lithium iron phosphate battery, this UPS can keep a PC with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 graphics card running for at least an hour.

Quick specs

  • LCD to show real-time power consumption
  • 10ms switchover time
  • Solar panel recharging compatible

While it looks like a hammer, it's really a rectangular box filled with ports and power outlets. Located at the front is an LCD screen, which shows you the real-time power draw. In the event of a blackout, the Asus ROG Mjolnir switches over your devices in just 10ms.

The “handle” is actually a flashlight that magnetically attaches to the top. You can't lift it by pulling on it. I know, because I tried. When you do, you simply detach the torch. This makes sense, because in a blackout, you probably want to get to fixing it first since the Asus ROG Mjolnir only provides an hour of uptime. If you don't need a flashlight there, you can replace it with your phone, since it's also a Qi 2.0 wireless charging point with MagSafe.

The Asus ROG Mjolnir portable UPS comes with four USB ports, two PD USB-C with 100W and 65W, as well as two USB-A ports. You also get four AC power outlets with a total power output of 1,200W max.

There's no word on pricing yet, or whether if will ever make it to Singapore. And given that blackouts are really rare in Singapore, you may never ever need it. But the Asus ROG Mjolnir solely belongs in the “want” category for us, and I'm guessing it's probably the same for you, too.
